Myra Pagel Toth, 1922-2012

Myra Pagel Toth, 89, a lifelong Hill County resident, passed away peacefully at her home of natural causes Jan. 10, 2012.

Family graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, with a Celebration of Life service to be held at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 3 p. m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bear Paw Hospice, 30 W. 13th St., Havre, MT or to one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, and cremation has taken place.

Myra was born May 19, 1922, to Phil and Wanda Pagel at Fresno, Mont. Times were tough, so hard work was something she learned at an early age. Her family was resourceful, and they made do with what they had at that time on the farm. When she was 12, the family moved to the beautiful Bear Paw Mountains, where they went into the ranching business. She would reminisce about those days and return to the mountains whenever she had the opportunity.

She met Edward Toth through the cattle-buying business, and soon afterward they were married. Together they raised five children on the “muddy Milk River homestead” east of Havre where she resided until her death.

Myra is survived by her children, Ray (Mardele) Toth of Havre, Edna (Bob) Kuhn of Havre, Rita (Herman) Gebert of Harlem, and Dean (Debbie) Toth of San Jose, Calif. ; 11 grandchildren, Joe (Lisa) Toth, Brandi (Erik) Lee, Jerry (Jessie) Kuhn, Emily Kuhn, Dusty Toth, Becky Toth, Nick (Jennifer) Toth, Tom (Stacey) Toth, Cheri Toth, Michael Toth and Tonya (Michael) Cone; 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Mackenzie Kuhn, Angelina Toth, Nikki and Zakary Lee, Tyler and Ashley Cone, Jake and Katie Toth, and Evan Charles Toth; two nieces, Ginny Haugen and Fern Harding; and faithful friend Lois Kuhn. She also leaves many long-time friends and neighbors, all of whom were very special to her.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward, in February 1992; son, Martin, in June 1992; brother, Henry and his wife, Helen, Pagel; son-in-law, Richard Richardson; and special daughter-in-law, Vicki Toth, July 1, 2011.

Janet Helmers Pagel, 1928-2012

Janet E. Pagel, age 83, of Janesville, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at her home.

She was born in Janesville on Feb. 24, 1928, the daughter of Frederick and Lillie (Thatcher) Helmers and was a 1946 graduate of Janesville High School. She married Wilbert E. Pagel on June 12, 1948, in Janesville. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2001. Janet was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and had worked in data entry for both Milton Data and the Swiss Colony.

She is survived by her children: Kathryn (Harry) Carle of Midlothian, VA, Pamela (Dale) Cavey of Janesville, William (Renee) Pagel of Camarillo, CA, and Robert Pagel of Orfordville; 5 grandchildren: Kathryn "Katie" and Rebecca "Becca" Carle, Andrea and Jeff Cavey, and Will Pagel; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives on the Helmers side; as well a special sister-in-law, Bernadine Stone of Evanston, IL, her daughter and family, Dawn (Larry) Mullin of Vail, CO, and their children, Keaghen and Tristen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Jacob "J.B.", Frederick, David, and Henry Helmers, and Kathryn Cunningham; a half sister, Ila Davidson and 2 infant half sisters, Ella & Emma.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the CHAPEL of MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK. Rev. Richard Lehmann will officiate.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Hedberg Public Library or to Mercy Hospice. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.

Clarksville TN -- Theodore Edward (Ted) Pagel Sr., 83, of Clarksville and formerly of Ashland City, died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Aleline Ely Pagel and wife, Mary Ann Pagel.

He is survived by his sons, Brother Ted (Tonia) Pagel Jr. and Leonard Pagel; daughters, Renee (Bill) Wiles-Timberlake and Valerie (Eddie) Evans; brothers, Fred, Raymond, Harold and Zeke Pagel; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, from 5-9 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, from 9-11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brothers Terry Bailey and Ted Pagel Jr. officiating.

Burial is in Cheatham Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Blake Evans, Brian Timberlake, Kristopher Wiles, Bill Timberlake, Eddie Evans and Paul Stuard. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Bethesda Center. Cheatham County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Susie Pagel, nee Hill, Born Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire County, England, says "Your Age is your Personality" and passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

Beloved wife of Douglas. Loving mother of Spencer Haag. Preceded in death her parents the late Ronald and Daphne Hill. Sister of Jackie (Trevor) Williams, Jenny Rogers, Lulu Ruoff, Julie (Barry) Tonks, Diane (John) Hampson, Lindsey (Paul) Barrett and the late Chris Hill. Sister-in-law of Briane (Pat) Pagel and Valerie (Jeff) Slomczewski. Beloved friend of Winnie the cat. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Per Susie's wish there will be no formal funeral. But in her honor raise a glass and say "Cheers Susie" and continue on with your life with enjoyment.

Thomas O. Pagel passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the age of 75 years.

Loving husband and best friend of Marion (Ten Broeke). Beloved Pops of Kristine (Tim) Donahue and Jeffrey (Ute) Pagel and her son CJ. Stepfather of David Ten Broeke and Carolyn (Craig) Edmonds. Dear brother of Roger A. (Janice A.) Pagel. Further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, his beloved grandpuppies Oliver, Trigger and Sara, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Barbara Ann.

Tom was a street rod enthusiast and was a longtime member of the WSRA.

Lisa Katz Pagel, wife of Thomas Pagel, passed away at her residence at Fort Lewis, Washington, on Wednesday, September 21, 2011.

Lisa was born May 8, 1965 in Akron, Ohio, the first child of Joyce (Moseley) and Marvin Katz, a schoolteacher and a journalist. She grew up in Glenshaw, Pa., Worthington, Ohio, and Rockville, Md., developing a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland crabs, and Nicobolis from Nicola's Pizza in Rehoboth, Del. along the way.

A thespian and member of the choir in high school, she returned to Ohio for college, majoring in Telecommuni-cations and then Journalism at Kent State University.

Her career began at the Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia, where she worked as a copy editor and reporter. She switched gears and headed to Richmond, Va. and served as press secretary to Governor Doug Wilder. Next she was off to Petersburg, Va., taking on the excitement of leading publication relations for Virginia State University. Lisa was always delighted in new adventures and moved to Durham, N.C. to start anew at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health, Public Relations Department.

She was a die-hard Tar Heels fan and enjoyed the company of many dear friends while she lived there. Lisa left North Carolina to take on a new challenge as a military spouse when she married Major Thomas Pagel on July 4, 2009. With her perky personality, she quickly fit right into the family support groups and scrap-bookers.

Lisa and Thomas were at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas when they discovered she had gallbladder cancer. Lisa took the news in stride and maintained her positive attitude throughout. During her cancer treatments she always made a point to learn the names and stories of the folks she met from the other patients, doctors, nurses, technicians and caregivers to the housekeepers and desk staff. Even on her roughest days Lisa would make sure to say ''hello'' and ask how they were doing, usually asking a question in follow-up to a previous conversation. She knew every person had a story and everyone was special and she could make them feel that way, be it with a word or that smile that could only make you smile back.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Major Thomas Pagel of Fort Lewis, Wash.; her parents, Marvin and Joyce Katz of Hendersonville, N.C.; her sister, Susie Katz Bobenrieth; brother-in-law, Rafael; niece, Adriana; nephew, Alex of Portland, Ore.; nieces and nephews, Kirsten, Joshua, Leandra, Jacob, Mallory, Michaela, Suzanne, Peter, Kendra, Hope, and Christopher; her parents; and mother-in-law, Ruth Pagel of Marshall.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township, Minnesota. Burial will be at the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Saturday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue at the church on Sunday, one hour prior to the service. Lucille Pagel Radies, 1939-2011

Lucille Agnes (Pagel) Radies, 91, of Stevensville passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman.

Lucille's life began in Bridgman on Feb. 6, 1920, as the first daughter to Paul and Anna (Barfelz) Pagel. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1937. On May 12, 1939, she married her love, Otto Julius Radies, in Benton Harbor. During World War II Lucille worked as a riveter on airplanes in Benton Harbor. Later she worked as a cook in the Lakeshore School District, where her children attended. Lucille loved working outside in her garden, tending to her flowers and manicured lawn. Lucille especially enjoyed time spent with family as well as volunteering at Zion Church.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, officiated by the Rev. Dan J. Smith, with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Zion U.C.C. Harold H. Pagel, 1926-2011

Mr. Harold H. Pagel, 84, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011.

He was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Macomb County, to Henry and Agnes (Oming) Pagel. Harold was raised in the Romeo area and graduated from Oxford High School in 1945. He met his wife, Phyllis, in Oxford and they later married Sept. 1, 1951, at St. Joseph Church in Lake Orion.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Gaylord in 1966 and then opened his business P&H Welding around 1996.

He moved to Lewiston in August of 2003. There he worked as a heavy equipment operator doing excavating. He also held jobs working as a custodian for the Otsego County Sportsplex and St. Francis Church.

Harold was a member of St. Francis Church, Knights of Columbus Gaylord Council and the Flywheelers Club. He loved to ride motorcycles and tractors. He was a Civil War buff and had traveled to Gettysburg. Harold was also an airplane aficionado. He was fascinated with airplanes and could identify all types.

Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Orville.

Harold is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Lewiston; children, David (Kay) of Gaylord, Karen (Jim) Riling of Johannesburg, Mark of Tulsa, Okla., and Brian of Lewiston; 12 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. from St. Francis Church in Lewiston, Father Ray Cotter, officiating. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Visitation at the church was held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. A wake service was held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Church, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Craig A. Pagel, 42, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, the 2nd of July, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A gathering time is planned for Thursday, July 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Craig was born June 25, 1969, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Paul and Jan Pagel. Craig was a graduate of Iowa City West High School. He worked as a cashier at Barnes and Noble for many years, and he spent the past few years working at Lemme Elementary School.

He was an avid fan of the Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.

Craig leaves behind many relatives and a large extended family at Systems where he lived for many years.

Survivors include his mother, Jan; a sister, Kim Michael (Marc) of Cedar Rapids; and brothers, David of Los Angeles, Calif., and Scott of Temecula, Calif. He also had eight nieces and nephews, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

Craig was preceded in death by his father, Paul; maternal grandparents, Bob and Helen Kline; and paternal grandparents, Irving and Marion Pagel.

Richard Pagel, Bremerton WA

Richard Pagel passed away at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton on June 18, 2011 with his wife and two sons at his side. He was born in Kalispell, Mont., to Beryl and Harmon Pagel. He has one sister, LaVonne Gullickson of Fairbanks, Ala. Richard grew up in the Tacoma and Ferndale area, graduating from Ferndale High School. He went to college at WWU in Bellingham, then into the Army for three years. Then he married his wife, Norma Jean Hahn, in Ferndale in 1963.

He and his wife have two sons, Roger Pagel of Yelm and Carl Pagel and his wife, Dana and their two children Henrik and Lola of Port Orchard. He retired in July 1995 as a Ship Scheduler supervisor from PSNS after 30 years. He loved to play Duplicate Bridge and was a Silver Life Master. He also was an avid fisherman, truly enjoying salmon fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, residents of Bellingham. Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 27 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, followed by burial at Sunset Lane Memorial Park. Online memorial and guest book can be viewed at www.rill.com.

Richard Pagel, 1941-2011

Dick was born in Kalispell, Montana on October 19, 1941 to Beryl and Harmon Pagel. They moved to Tacoma while he was still a baby, and the family grew when LaVonne was born. They then moved from Tacoma to Ferndale, Washington when he was in his teens.

He graduated from Ferndale High and went to Western but decided that wasn’t for him so he went into the Army. He spent most of his Army years working with radio communication equipment at a castle in Hochst (Hurst), Germany. When he was discharged from the Army in 1963, he came back to Ferndale and met the "love" of his life - Norma Jean Hahn from Sedro Wooley.

They married in 1963 at Zion Lutheran church in Ferndale and started their life together in Bellingham. Later that year, they moved to Bremerton because Dick found work at the Navy Yard. He went through the pipefitter apprenticeship, working many years as a pipefitter. He finally ended up in Scheduling as a supervisor. Their oldest son Roger was born in Bremerton. They moved to Port Orchard a year and a half later, where their youngest son Carl was born in 1969. They lived in Port Orchard for 22 years before moving to Olalla where they built their dream home.

When Dick was 55, he had a heart attack which helped him decide it was time to retire. It turned out to be the best decision. He found retirement the job he had always been looking for. Retirement gave him more time to do the fun things he enjoyed such as salmon fishing, pheasant hunting, and other outdoor activities.

He belonged to Glass Odyssey Corvette Club and had since 1970, being president of the club at one Time. The first corvette he bought was a green 1964. He had some fun times auto-crossing, going on tours and running rallies. He also really enjoyed duplicate bridge, becoming a Silver Life Master in 2008.

During the summers he looked forward to fishing down at the ocean – keeping the family well supplied with salmon. While in retirement, Dick spent some time selling cars in Tacoma. The best thing about selling cars was meeting lots of interesting people and being able to help his friend run the dealership.

When he was 61 a wonderful thing happened – he became a Grandfather. So much happiness and fun. He enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren. Henrik came first in 2003 and then Lola in 2006. Both the grandkids loved spending time with their grandpa.

His life was full of laughter and family time. He was truly loved by his wonderful wife Norma, and two sons Roger and Carl.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard followed by burial at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.

Jean Pagel Wier, 1928-2011

Jean Pagel Wier, 82, former Permian teacher, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Odessa Hospice House.

Jean was born September 21, 1928 in Cotulla, Texas to the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Albert Pagel. Jean grew up in Cotulla Texas, a place she loved and felt a connection to her entire life, returning as often as possible and maintaining lifelong friendships from her childhood. After skipping several grades and graduating from high school at 16, she attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in physical education. She started her teaching career in Crystal City, Texas and later moved on to teach P.E. at William Adams High School in Alice, Texas. While teaching in Alice, she met and later married her husband, John Philip "Buddy" Wier on June 6, 1953. In 1961 Jean began teaching P.E. at Permian High School and later taught Health. In 1979 she earned her Master of Arts Degree from UTPB and counseled students at Ector, Odessa High, Bonham, and finally returning to Permian.

She was selected as a member of the Teacher Hall of Fame in 1961, Permian Favorite Teacher of the Year in 1971, and in 2010 was the second person to receive an honorary "black shirt," a recognition bestowed to a select few teachers who have provided significant service to Permian. For many who knew her, Jean embodied the spirit of Mojo. She was head of the Health and PE departments, senior class sponsor, senior assembly sponsor, student council sponsor, band sponsor, intramural coach and band booster. One of her favorite memories was co-sponsoring the Permian Pepettes with her friends Alice Jeffers and M'Liss Schneider in the 1970's. Together they travelled many miles supporting the Mojo football team and impacted the lives of many PHS girls. She considered many of her Permian faculty friends her closest and dearest.

After retiring in 1993, Jean remained active in the schools as a volunteer and part-time counselor. She was also active as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a member of the Odessa Contemporary Garden Club, serving as its president, the Odessa Women's Forum, serving as its president, a member of St. Barnabas Women's Book Study, and active in Ector County Retired Teachers Association. She was inducted into the Daughters of King of the Episcopal Church, and was proud of her profound commitment to serve God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy; her mother and father, Jen and Louis Pagel; and her beloved sister Virginia Ann Pagel. Jean is survived by her sons Jim Dave Wier of Odessa and John Philip Wier, Jr. of Dallas. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews and an extended family of close friends who looked to her as a surrogate mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm Friday, June 3 at Frank Wilson Funeral Home in Odessa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 4 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa, with Father David Mossbarger presiding. An interment ceremony will be held at 2pm on Monday, June 6 in Cotulla, Texas.

Honorary pall bearers include Myron Schneider, Steve Brown, John Wilkins, Leldon Hensley, Gene McCanlies, Jay Cox, Paul Brown, Jim Pritchard, Gil Bartosh, Richard Dobie and Bobby Byars.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Odessa Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas 79761 or to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Mary Bradley Douglas Pagel, age 89 of Jasper, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at her residence following a period of declining health.

Born and raised in Montgomery, Al., on May 10, 1921, to Stephen and Lucile Douglas, Mrs. Pagel had a pioneering spirit from early on. She graduated from Margaret Booth School, as well as Huntington College where she received her Bachelor's degree in Art.

In 1949, the Pagels moved to Roberta, Ga., where Mrs. Pagel's never-ending quest to learn instigated her creation of the first preschool in Crawford County. She went on to enjoy a successful career as a third grade public school teacher and then later worked as the county's high school art teacher, developing her own art curriculum. It was as an art teacher she was able to share her love and appreciation of many different mediums of art. She worked in sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics, painting and drawing and later in life enjoyed wood carving, chair caning and stained glass. Mr. and Mrs. Pagel have long been involved in supporting community arts through promoting art shows, operating an art gallery and frame shop and teaching classes.

Two years after graduating college in 1941, Mrs. Pagel proudly volunteered to serve her country in the United States Navy during World War II. During her service as a Navy Wave she worked as an aviation machinist's mate, as well as received her pilot's license. While stationed in Corpus Christi, Tx., she met and married her husband of 65 years, John "Jack" T. Pagel, Jr. After her service in the Navy ended in 1945, Mr. and Mrs.

Pagel moved back to Alabama where the couple worked as cattle ranchers. After moving to Jasper in 1995, Mr. and Mrs. Pagel became members of Jasper United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pagel enjoyed gardening and continued to be an artist until her death.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents and two sisters, Dorothy Douglas Greene and Joyce Douglas Hartley; and two precious children, Stephen Douglas Pagel and Jessica Lynn Pagel.

Mrs. Pagel was a member of DAR, UDC, Retired Teachers and the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; son, Johnny Pagel, and daughter-in-law, Bonny Pagel, Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Lucile Elkins, and sonin-law, Joe Elkins; and daughter, Jenny Pagel, all of Jasper; grandsons, John Pagel, Palmer, Alaska, James Pagel, St. Augustine, Fl., and Andy Pagel, Fairbanks, Alaska; granddaughters, Jessica White and Bonnie Elkins, both of Jasper, and Emma Elkins, Atlanta; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, from Jasper United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chip Wilson, Hoyt Jenkins and Al Larson officiating. Interment of the cremains was at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Roberta City Cemetery in Roberta, Ga., with U. S. Naval Military Honors. The Rev. Jim Hamlin officiated. The family asks that flowers be omitted and anyone desiring to do so may make contributions to the Jasper United Methodist Church. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Beverly Faye Pagel, 75 of Lincoln, died on Monday, February 7, 2011 in Lincoln. She was born on July 21, 1935 in Lincoln to H. Armin and Edna (Booth) Pagel. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953 and the University of Nebraska.

She worked for the Cedars Home for Children. Bev loved the outdoors and things of nature. She had a green thumb and raised beautiful flowers and flowering trees. She was the best pitcher the First Church ball team ever had. Cats were an important part of Bev's life. Music was also important to her. She had a large tape collection that she listened to as well as being an accomplished pianist. Bev provided transportation for many of her friends, so they could keep appointments.

Beverly is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Armin and Ginny Pagel of Texas; niece, Karen of New Jersey; nephew, Doug and wife Jude of Illinois; two great nephews, Reece and Nathan; cousin, Stan McNichol and families of Ken and Gladys Pagel, Keith and Martha Pagel, Sherrie and Herb Kirchem, Bob (and Ruth Pagel) McNicol, Rex and Joan Koivisto, Bruce and Janet McNicol. Round Robin High School friends and a host of others.

Florence Opal Pagel, 87, of Michigan City passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at 6:15 a.m. at her home in Michigan City.

Cremation will take place. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Florence was born June 14, 1923, in Furnessville, Ind., to the late Wilbur and Blanche (McMillen) Crawford. On Oct. 15, 1948, in Springfield Township, she married R. Victor Pagel, who is surviving in Michigan City.

Also surviving are two daughters, Donna (Bill) Wright and Vickie (Terry) Troyer; one son, Michael Pagel; three grandchildren, Robert (Sharon) Wright, Jeff Wright and Amanda Troyer; two great-grandchildren, Wesley Wright and Alyssa Wright; one sister, Audrey Cook and one brother, Delbert Crawford.

Preceding her in death are five sisters, Linda Thompson, Rose Seivert, Dorothy Woodruff, Blanche Crawford and Evelyn Rude; and six brothers, Harvey, Glenn, Marvin, Jack, Harold and Raymond Crawford.

Florence retired as head of the kitchen at Coolspring School. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Rolling Prairie. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to all her family and all who knew her. She was a Master of Heartland Cooking and enjoyed gardening, playing euchre and loved being able to feed and nurture her hummingbird friends who followed her.

LeRoy was born in Elkhorn on July 7, 1950, son of Roland and Evelyn (Liebnow) Pagel. LeRoy graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1969. He was a member of the Delavan United Methodist Church. He was a cross country commercial truck driver most of his working life. He was an avid stock car driver, and loved fishing and horses.

He is survived by three children: Nathan Pagel, Eric Pagel, and Holly Pagel, of Lake Geneva; his parents, Roland and Eve Pagel of Delavan; one sister, Loretta (David) Gransee of Montello, WI; and one brother, Larry (Jane) Pagel of Solders Grove, WI. He was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Pagel.

Dennis Otto Frederick Pagel was born Sept, 2, 1932, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minn., to Leo and Ella (Grochow) Pagel.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-55. He served in Germany in the Signal Corps.

Joshua Lee Pagel, 33, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, died early Monday morning, Feb. 15, 2010, at his residence in Madison, due to health complications.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. William Barlow will officiate.

Josh was born Nov. 15, 1976, in Stevens Point, to Roger and Patricia "Teed" (Lee) Pagel. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1997 and attended MSTC. He worked as a material handler for a plastic injection molding company.

Josh was an avid disc golfer and sports enthusiast, loved Indie Rock music and collected sport memorabilia (especially Payton Manning). He was a people person and also recognized through the National Art Recognition. Josh was the family organizer through planning many trips to California to visit relatives. He liked to argue with his Uncle Doug about which sports team was the best.

Josh is survived by his parents, Roger and Patricia "Teed" Pagel of Wisconsin Rapids; two brothers, Jesse (Tina) Pagel and Justin Pagel, both of Madison; and many other relatives and friends, especially the Russell Street family. He is preceded in death by two of his uncles, Richard Pagel and Kenny Lee; paternal and maternal grandparents.

Daniel Michele Pagel was born on June 25, 1988, in Royal Oak, Mich. He died peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 9, 2010.

Daniel is survived by his parents, Charles and Marianne Pagel; brother, Scott Wagner Pagel; sister, Amy Kristin Pagel; and his dog, Petey. He is the great-nephew of Bettina O'Connell of St. Clair Shores; and nephew of Robert and Leslie Reaser of Grosse Pte. Woods, James and Michelle Pagel of Charleston. Daniel was an avid basketball and frisbee golf player, and snowboarder. He will be deeply missed by many friends.

Inez Norma Bulau was born on May 15, 1925 in New Auburn Township, Sibley County to Alfred and Eleanor (Perschau) Bulau. On March 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to William Pagel at the St. John's Lutheran Church Bismarck in Bismarck Township, Sibley County. They farmed in the Winthrop and Lafayette area until 1975 when they moved into Winthrop. Inez worked at Lyle's Cafe in Winthrop for seventeen years. She enjoyed old time music, reading, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. She was known for her Divinity and Fudge. Inez was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church Bismarck and the ladies aid at church.

John G. Pagel, age 102, received his wish, as the Lord took his hand and opened the doors of heaven for him on January 9, 2010, at Century Ridge, after a short illness.

John was born December 28, 1907 in the Town of Charlestown, to Herman and Emma (Kind) Pagel. John was the oldest living and life-long member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ where he was baptized and confirmed and served on the Church Council.

On April 23, 1935, he married Vivian Pilling at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton. The couple would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in April. John and Vivian made their home in the Town of Charlestown where John farmed and later worked at Tecumseh Products, retiring in 1975. The couple then moved to Chilton and enjoyed 34 years of retirement together.

In 2006, John and Vivian moved to Century Ridge Assisted Living Facility, where they were able to continue their life together, making many new friends. John and Vivian enjoyed spending time with their family, traveling, playing cards and visiting with their friends.

John is lovingly survived by his wife, Vivian; one daughter, Charlotte (Don) Bruckner of Tampa, FL; three sons, Charles of Brown Deer, Wayne (Sandy)of Chilton, Gerald (Mary)of Chilton. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kathy (Jack) McCurdy, Gary Bruckner, Glen (Tish) Bruckner, all of Florida, Judy (Cory) Block of Mequon, Jon (Jane) Pagel of Germantown, Jill (Darrin) Paluchniak of Sussex, Tami Alten of Chilton, Holly Pagel of Chilton, Kristi (Keith) Mueller of Chilton, Kayla (Matthew) Vance of Edgerton; 17 great-grandchildren, with number 18 due in June; one great-great-grandchild, with number two due in April. He is also survived by two brothers, Arno and Herman, both of Chilton; brother-in-law, Jim Scholz; sister-in-law, Virginia Stecker, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death were his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Albert and Ida Pilling; daughter-in-law, Darlene Pagel; brother, Ted (Elva) Pagel; sister, Olive (Wally) Jaeger; a 3-year old sister, Adela; sisters-in-law, Marion Pagel, Grace Pagel, Pearl (Harold) Schwalenberg, Eunice Scholz, Ruth Sturm Pagel; brother-in-law, Norman Stecker.

Funeral services for John will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Chilton with Rev. Kathy Gloff officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Chilton. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established.

Ordella Pagel, 88, of New Ulm died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Wednesday.

Ordella is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda Pagel of New Ulm; grandsons, Matthew, Justin, Zachary Svetlana, Carl and Mollie and Karl Pagel; great-grandchildren, Max, Augie and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Pagel on April 15, 1994; and a brother, Melvin in infancy.

Ordella Henrietta Elsie Boelter was born Sept. 11, 1921 in Bismarck Township, Sibley County to Wilhelm and Selma (Gehrke) Boelter. She was united in marriage to Paul Pagel on April 29, 1945 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she worked in the meat department of the Red Owl Grocery Store and had worked at the Wear well Garment Factory. She also did daycare for her grandchildren for many years. Ordella enjoyed traveling, fishing and going to Jackpot Junction. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and the American Legion Auxiliary.

William F. Pagel, 1928 - 2009

William F. Pagel, age 81 passed away peacefully on November 23, 2009 at home surrounded by family.

He was born on January 8, 1928 in Chicopee. He was son of the late William H. and Donalda (Lacroix) Pagel. He was a communicant of Assumption Church.

William served our country during WWII in the Navy as a Seaman First Class. He was a graduate of Chicopee High School Class of 1946 and from Bryant College class of 1951. He worked as the company controller and was a director of the Credit Union at F.W. Sickles followed by 13 years at J.S. Woodhouse. He was also an accountant for 5 years at the Mayflower Nursing Home in Cape Cod and another 5 years at the Cape Regency Nursing home in Sandwich, MA where he retired from in 1985.

He was a member of the Association of Marion Fathers, the Elks and the Keymans Club. He loved watching Sports on TV especially Boson Bruins, College Football and Golf. He also loved back yard barbeques with his family.

He leaves his loving wife of 57 years, Helen J. (Boisvert) Pagel of Chicopee; 7 children, William A. Pagel and his wife Eleanor of Chicopee, Marie Hurley of Enfield, Ct, David Pagel and his wife Marcia of Batavia, NY, Richard Pagel and his wife Sandra of Chicopee, Marilyn Woishnis and her husband Michael of Chicopee, Michelle Welch and her late husband Michael of Chicopee, Maureen Pagel and her life partner Adelina Santos of Chicopee and 12 grandchildren Melissa Pagel-Ryczek and William Pagel, Meghann Hurley, Sean Hurley, David Pagel, Wendie Pagel, Robert Propst, Jason and Richard Pagel and Michael, Jennifer and Katelyn Woishnis.

He is predeceased by his grandson Matthew Woishnis. He also leaves his 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Madeline Marshall and her late husband Ronald of Westfield and Shirley Fisher and her husband Paul of Long Island, NY. He also leaves his 2 beloved dogs, Maggie and Hank.

The Changing of the Guard: Repeater Karl Pagel, N6BVU

It is with much sadness that we report the passing of on our friend and former Newsline Survey-master Karl Pagel, N6BVU. Karl had been in declining health for some time and being treated in a nursing home in Orange County, California.

Among his many achievements was his co-authoring with Kevin Karamanos, WD6DIH, of the most accurate and inclusive repeater directory covering the great American South-West. Its been said that if a repeater actually existed that it could be found in Karl's database and in the directories that he and Kevin published for more than half a decade.

Karl was also heavily involved in repeater coordination issues. While he never owned or operated a repeater it was his work with all three of Southern California's regional frequency coordination bodies that helped many a new system come on the air. His work did not go unnoticed nationally and he was appointed as the Southwestern Division representative on the ARRL's VHF Repeater Advisory Committee where he also as chairman for one term. He was also presented with the ARRL Southwestern Division's Meritorious Service Award for his dedication to repeaters and frequency coordination.

In addition to all of this, when Amateur Radio Newsline gained its original corporate status in the mid-1980's and we needed to find out who was listening, it was Karl who offered his services to us. And for about two years he dutifully tallied all of responses to the survey questions we put out.

Karl Pagel was gifted had the knowledge needed to do complex database work and gave of himself unselfishly for the betterment of the hobby. Dick McKay, K6VGP, is one of the founding fathers of the original Southern California repeater Association. In an e-mail to Newsline, McKay said that N6BVU was certainly a good man and a true friend of ham radio.

Karl Pagel, N6BVU, was age 66 when he passed away on November 10th. He is survived by his mother Mary, KA6IGG, his brother Kent and a Southern California ham radio community that truly admired his dedication and work on their behalf. (ARNewsline(tm), K0OV, K6VGP)

Elizabeth Jane Batley Pagel (Betty), 89, of Marietta, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009, at North Fulton Hospital. For the past two-and-one-half years, she was living at the Heritage of Sandy Plains assisted living in Marietta.

She is preceded in death by her first husband of 43 years, Gwin E. Batley, their son, Jon G. Batley, and her second husband of 19 years, Donald Pagel, and her parents Irene Mary and John J. Mary. She is survived by her son, Lt Col (US Army Retired) David Batley and his wife, Heather Batley of Marietta, and her granddaughter, Sloane Henry (Michael) of Iowa City, Iowa, and grandson, Jonathan Blake Batley (Amy) of Alpharetta, Georgia, along with 5 great grandchildren.

Born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, Ms. Pagel first came to the Atlanta area from Ohio in the late 1950's, and again relocated to Atlanta in the 1970's. After high school, she attended Ohio University in the late 1930's prior to marrying. While living in Atlanta, she worked for several years for the American Heart Association. Her passions included her family, traveling to any beach, flower gardening, and painting furniture. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are desirable. Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Sandy Springs on Thursday, October 29, at 12 pm with a reception following. Donald H. Pagel, 82, of Holton, KS passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009 as the result of an ATV accident heading off cattle at his farm north of the Parallel Road. He was born August 24, 1927 west of Holton, KS the son of Theodore and Mina E. Haas. He graduated from Holton High School in 1945.

Don was a lifelong farmer and stockman in the Holton and Netawaka communities. While in the eighth grade he purchased his first pure bred Hereford heifer with which he started his herd. He was a member of the Netawaka United Methodist Church. Don served on the Hazel Row, Netawaka and Jackson Heights School boards, was a member of the Kansas Agriculture State Board and the JCLA for many years serving as president in 1977. He received Pasture Improvement Awards in 1964 and 1965, the Lions Club Farmer of the Year in 1969 and received one of the Kansas Bankers Soil Conservation Awards in 1970. Don was a member of KLA since early 1960s and served on the KLA Board of Directors from 1978 1981. He was also a Lay member of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners from 1981 1988.

Don married Estella Ely on March 19, 1950 in Netawaka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Diane Kathrens (Steve) of Holton, KS; 2 sons, Wayne Pagel (Beth) and Henry Pagel (Margaret) all of Holton, KS; a sister, Carolyn Andler of Parkville, MO; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin infant daughters, Karen and Sharon Pagel in 1955.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Carl A. Pagel, 90, Kewaunee died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Kewaunee Care Center.
He was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Oconto County, to the late August and Elizabeth (Fuller) Pagel.
He married Garnet Ann Bunda on Oct. 11, 1941, and she preceded him in death June 4, 1986.
He then married Gladys Sisel Allen on April 20, 1989, and she preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2000.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific from 1942 to 1946.

He farmed all of his life in the town of West Kewaunee until retiring. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church in Casco. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3392 of Kewaunee County; served on the Kewaunee School Board, was a member of the Kewaunee Area Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and a member of the Jolly Czechs. Carl's love and leadership to our area farming community was expressed through many families and organizations.

Survivors include seven children, Linda and Allen Baumgartner, Kewaunee; Suzanne and Dave Tlachac, Green Bay; Marcia Hayes, Greenville, S.C.; Carl Joe and Jessica Pagel, Casco; Mona Pagel, Wausau, Wis.; William and Eileen Pagel, Kewaunee; John and Kim Pagel, Kewaunee; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce Kinjerski, Kewaunee; Lou and Bill Popp, Townsend; two sisters-in-law, Cecelia Bunda, Casco; and Marie Pagel, Florida.

Kenneth L. Pagel, age 85, of 2120 Lexington Drive, Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, after an extended recovery period following a stroke in 1998.

Ken was born on Aug. 13, 1924, in the town of Kossuth in Manitowoc County, son of the late Albert and Alvina K. Pagel. He attended public schools in Manitowoc, graduating with the class of 1942 from Lincoln High School and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1951. He played the clarinet in the UW Marching Band and while in college was employed by UW athletic director Harry Stuhldreher, one of the "Four Horsemen of Notre Dame." On Sept. 22, 1956, Ken was married to the former Gay Lynn Belinske at First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.

Ken worked in engineering and management for 36 years at Hamilton Manufacturing Company in Two Rivers, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as a deacon and usher. Ken was a former member of the Elks Club and the Manitowoc County Historical Society. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports, cooking brats and, most importantly to him, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gay Lynn, Manitowoc; son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Donna Pagel, Jupiter, Flo.; son: David Pagel, Carrollton, Tex.; and his children, Bethany, Houston, Tex.; and Ethan, College Station, Tex.; son: Tom Pagel, San Francisco, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law: Myron and Norma Pagel, Brown Deer. An uncle, cousins, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert, in 1945 and his mother, Alvina, in 1996.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate. Cremation will follow with interment at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, 1500 Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.

Bernice Martha Pagel, 92, Tama [IA], died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at the Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Phil Borleske officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, from 5-8 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Bernice was born on Jan. 18, 1917, to Joseph and Alvina (Friedricks)) Lenhart in rural Tama County. She was the second of five children raised on the family farm south of Tama. Bernice attended rural schools and graduated from Tama High School in 1934. Bernice enjoyed performing in school plays and continued doing comedic readings for years for church events, showers, etc.

On Dec. 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to Lyle Pagel at her parents home in rural Tama. They made Tama their home throughout their married life, raising three children there.
Bernice was an active homemaker while her children were young, then worked for the South Tama County School District as a cook, finishing her career as head cook. Bernice was locally known as a great cook and loved nothing more than family dinners with all her homemade favorites. She was a master at rose gardening, her specialty being all variety of red tea roses. Many Tama residents benefited by a visit from Bernice bearing fudge or kringle and a fresh rose bouquet.

Bernice was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. She was a founding member and continued her stewardship throughout her life by holding numerous offices, teaching Sunday School and serving on various boards. She also was a longtime member of the Tama Federated Club and the Oak Hill Cemetery Association.

Bernice and Lyle enjoyed family vacations traveling to many states and to Canada to fish for many years. Travel partners included Lyle and Bernice's siblings and families on many memorable trips. Family gatherings of any kind and attending their grandchildrens activities delighted them both.

Bernice and Lyle moved to the Villa in 2006, where they could occupy a room overlooking the flower garden. Bernice lost her precious Lyle in December of 2006, one day short of seventy-one years of marriage and missed him dearly until her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lyle in 2006; her dear daughter, Carol Ann Brown; and three brothers, Johnnie, Clifford and Donald Lenhart.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Patricia) Pagel of Kearney, Mo; one daughter, Jeani (Kurt) Sloan, Carlisle; a son-in-law, Harold Brown, Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Lisa (Rob) Rivera, Debbie (Randy) Rogers, Kris (Todd) Krueger, Joe (Lisa) Pagel, Dr. Kylie (Mike Davis) Sloan, and Capt Joshua (Beth) Sloan; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Joan Yanda, Maquoketa.

Helen C. Pagel, 88, of Virginia [MN], died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at St. Michael's Health & Rehabilitation Center in Virginia, following a lengthy illness with cancer. She was born on March 4, 1921, in Gary, Minnesota to Harry and Clara (Larson) Hanson. Helen was married on December 15, 1941 to Lawrence "Andy" Pagel and following their marriage, they resided in Bemidji, later living in Palo and Forbes.

For the past ten years, Helen has resided at the Columbia Apartments in Virginia. She had worked as a seamstress at the former Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory. Helen was a charter member of Grace Bible Church; a member of the Columbia coffee an' club and had volunteered her time delivering meals at the Columbia and setting tables at the Rouchleau. She enjoyed attending car races, cooking, knitting, crocheting and gardening. Helen especially enjoyed spending time with her church family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Loren (Marilynn "Sam") Pagel of Zim; her daughter, JoAnn (Ed) Zelesnikar of Eveleth; grandchildren, Loren "Todd" (Tami) Pagel, Tammy Pagel (Randy Ilg), Tim Pagel, Holly (Andy) Larson, Michael Zelesnikar (Neshay Evers) and Cassandra "Cassie" Zelesnikar; great grandchildren, Zoe and Tyler; two sisters, Adeline Shreiter of Greenville, South Carolina, Lorraine Heard of National City, California and numerous nephews and nieces. Judith was a graduate of Central High School in Grand Junction and later received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Arizona State University; Creative Arts Therapy at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York; and a Masters of Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Judith made her career as a Counselor and Child Advocate, she was also the Founder and Director of the F.O.C.U.S. Program. During her career, she received many awards: The Golden Galaxy Manager Recruitment, National Tupperware Award twice, in 1970 and 1971; The Child Advocate Award as Founder of the Family Opportunity Center in 1993 and the 1993 Child Advocate Award as Founder of the University for Parents.

Judith was very community minded and missed no opportunity as a community volunteer. Her hobbies included being a master gardener, she enjoyed jewelry making, reading, writing, painting, drawing, playing the piano and playing cards. Her family was very important to her.

Judith is survived by her loving husband, Neil Pagel; her mother, Lois Waller; her children, Michael Morrison, Christopher Morrison and Michelle Burnett; her grandchildren, Melissa Harbertson, Shon Morrison, Dylan Morrison, Julia Morrison, Alex Brazeal, Zachary Burnett and Brandon Burnett.

Services for Judith will be on August 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at the Windmill House, 1460 W. Rd. 4 North in Chino Valley, Arizona. Betty Louise Pagel, 77, of Jacksonville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 22, 2009 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born November 25, 1931 in Hector, Minnesota to Donald Garlock and Lucinda Kuther Garlock. She moved to Jacksonville with her former husband, the late Ervin Pagel, in the '60s. They lived in University Park in Arlington and owned Holiday Motors in the 60s and 70s. Her stepfather was the late Ralph Niles and brothers were the late George Garlock and Orlin "Sonny" Niles.

Betty had a great love for animals and felt it was her job on earth to take care of cats. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama three years ago to be with her daughter Ila and her family. She is survived by her daughter, Ila Jain and her husband, Dr. Rohit Jain of Huntsville, Alabama; granddaughters, Tarina and Raina Jain; many nieces and nephews in Minnesota and many loving friends.

Hank was born March 10, 1934, the son of Orien and Lena (Buchmeyer) Pagel in Riceville, Iowa. A graduate from the University of Iowa, he served four years in the United States Navy. Hank was an engineer for Rockwell Collins. After his retirement, he spent many years in Texas. Hank always appreciated interactions with all of his friends over the years.

Paul Kostuch, Jr., 85, passed away on Sunday morning, June 21, 2009, at his home. He was born on Aug. 9, 1923, in Waupaca County, Wis., son of the late Paul Sr. and Ernestina (Pagel) Kostuch. On Sept. 1, 1945, he married Vivian Jane Knaack at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah, and the union was blessed with two beautiful daughters. After schooling, Paul went on to work at The Neenah Foundry Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1982. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Paul loved the outdoors and will be remembered as a very loving, honest and helpful man, who was always willing to watch over his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved so much.

He will be sadly missed by Vivian, his loving wife of 63 years; his daughters, Sandra (Arlyn) Schuelke, Weyauwega; Terry (Mark) Smith, Kaukauna; his grandchildren, Tina (Rob) Haasl, Brenda Schuelke, Michelle (Andy) Staats, Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren, Haley and Lana Haasl, and Austin Staats.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Art) Nelson.

Bruce Pagel, well-known teacher, coach He loved working with students and was praised as a patient math teacher and basketball coach.

Bruce Pagel has the distinction of scoring the first basket in the first basketball game played in the former Macalester College Field House, when that facility was new in 1957. By the time he ended his four-year career at the St. Paul school, No. 25 had tallied 1,091 points, earned four varsity letters and been named an All-Conference selection his senior season.

His prowess and leadership on the basketball court led him in 1988 to be inducted into the school's athletic Hall of Fame where he is recognized as Macalester's 12th leading scorer. He was also recognized and remembered by students as an inspirational high school math teacher and basketball coach.

Pagel, 74, died of a heart attack Sunday at his home in Vining, Minn.

"What made him such a good math teacher was his ability, and patience, to get the message across," said Mark Carlson, who had Pagel for an algebra teacher in the 1970s at the former Hopkins Lindbergh High School.

Pagel began his teaching and coaching career in 1957 in Balaton, Minn. He taught there for two years, then went to Detroit Lakes High School for two years and Blue Earth High School for eight years. Pagel arrived in the Hopkins School District in 1970. Pagel taught a variety of math courses at Hopkins Lindbergh from 1970 to 1978 and was known for taking extra time with students and making positive contributions to departmental meetings, said Jim Whitney, chairman of the school's Math Department.

When the department's budget was cut, Pagel moved to Hopkins North Junior High and later to Hopkins West Junior High. He retired in 1991. He had numerous opportunities to take administrative positions, but each time opted to remain in the classroom.

"Bruce loved working with students, and mathematics was a strong field for him," said his wife of 55 years, Carol.

Pagel brought his positive attitude and passion for basketball to the court, where for many years he served as an assistant coach to Ken Novak Sr., a longtime boys basketball coach in the Hopkins School District. He also was the head coach for the Hopkins High School girl's basketball team.

"He was a fantastic coach, and as an individual he could not be beat," Novak said.

Pagel loved to fish and hunt and was a board member of the Pioneer Heritage Conservation Trust Board in Otter Tail County. After retirement, he was an active member of Vining Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and various boards.

Although he was of German descent, he served as an officer for the Sons of Norway, joking that "I'm not Norwegian, but I'm taking pills for it," his wife said.

In addition to his wife, Pagel is survived by a son, David, of Duluth.; two daughters, Amy Glomski, currently teaching in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, and Angie Endo, of Hopkins; and two sisters, Jan Wally, of Park City, Utah, and Judy Ewald, of St. Paul.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Vining Lutheran Church, 411 Lund Av., Vining.

EAU CLAIRE — Jacqueline J. “Jackie” Lucivansky, 42, of Chippewa Falls passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 21, 1966, in Edina, Minn. to Jacqueline (Hughes) and Marvin Attleson. She grew up in Apple Valley and Savage, Minn. and graduated with honors from the Minnehaha Academy in 1985. She continued her education at UW-Stout in Menomonie, where she graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Family and Consumer Education and Health.

She married Jon Lucivansky on July 21, 1990, at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. During their marriage they resided in Rice Lake, Amery and Chippewa Falls. She began her teaching career in Hayward and later in Weyerhauser, where she taught until 2006.

Jackie was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.

She will be dearly missed by: her husband Jon; two children, Mark and Manuela, all of Chippewa Falls; her mother Jacqueline Attleson of Woodbury, Minn.; two sisters, Annette (Tom) Pagel of Grand Raids, Minn., Caroline (Eric) Butterfield of Andover, Minn.; mother and father-in-law, Richard and LaVonne Lucivansky of Center City, Minn.; sister-in-law Jodi (Leo) Johnson of North Branch, Minn.; three nephews, Lars Pagel, Bennett Butterfield, Gregory Lucivansky; a niece, Samantha Butterfield; an aunt, Mildred Bagley of Wisconsin Dells; and many close friends. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II - South Pacific as a Corporal during the Invasion of the Philippines on the Island of Leyte and also in Okinawa. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in Menasha. Bob had been employed by American Can Company for 40 years and retired from there in 1986.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division Street, Neenah, with Rev. Michael Ingold officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Military Rites will be preformed by American Legion William Verhagen Post #60 of Kimberly at the church after the service. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Veterans Museum in Oshkosh or to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Chicago.

Carl was a retired Boeing flight-line aircraft mechanic and former owner/operator of an automotive repair/service center in Wichita. Laura Pagel OLIN Laura Olin died on Dec. 20, 2008 at home from metastatic melanoma. She was 48 years old. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 20 years, Rob.

James Pagel - Life Stories

Engineer recalled as a loyal friend, good storyteller James Pagel was a straight-talking, hard-working man who gave his time and talents to the community around him, helping to build a museum, a church, even a Boy Scout troop.

Pagel died Sept. 15 [2008] at age 85. Those who knew him well said he wasn't afraid to share his opinion, but he was also a loyal friend.

"He drove me to Troy to my family reunion," said Bill Whatley, a friend and neighbor of Pagel's at Redstone Village. "I don't guess he ever met an enemy. He loved life, and he endeared himself to people who cared about life."

Born and raised in Florence, Pagel flew B29 missions in the South Pacific for the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Auburn University and worked as an engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority. He then got a job with NASA, then with a defense contractor. After that, he got an Army civil service job.

He met his wife, Josette, at a church service in Florence. The couple were married for 61 years and had three children: Jo Nan Jacoby, a pharmacist in Birmingham; Jimmy Pagel, a physician in Colorado, and John, who was killed in a hiking accident years ago, shortly after graduating from medical school.

Pagel enjoyed hiking and being outdoors. In the 1950s, when their children were young, he used his design talents to sketch a pop-up camper - and then build it - in the days before mass-produced campers were commonplace.

When the family took the camper on outings, "people stopped and stared," Josette Pagel said. "They had never seen such a thing."

One of his favorite things to do was spend time at the cabin he built in Granite, Colo., on property he had purchased in the 1960s. After the Pagels retired, they spent about six months of the year there, relying on a wood stove for heat and cooking. Pagel used a gas generator and solar power to keep the cabin "off the grid."

James Pagel was also given to practical jokes and tall tales, Whatley said.

"He would go down to the common area (at Redstone Village) and tell stories," Whatley said. "He called it 'The House of Commons.'

"If you could get him to start telling stories, everybody would stop what they were doing."

Pagel was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and playing a key role in rebuilding the church after the building was destroyed by a tornado in 1989.

He also played a key role in the development of Burritt on the Mountain museum, becoming Member No. 1 when memberships were first sold. He helped with construction projects and made aspen walking sticks that were sold at Burritt's gift shop.

On Thanksgiving weekend, he'd go up to the museum and lay out the 400 candle sconces, said Gary Hartwig, retired maintenance supervisor at Burritt. The Pagels would make sure the sconces stayed lit while visitors took in the holiday atmosphere.

"He supported the museum and offered suggestions, usually for the Candlelight Christmas," Hartwig said. "He was a generous person with his help and his time."

Vivian R. Pagel --Born on August 23, 1920 on a farm near Genoa City, Wisconsin and passed away on September 19, 2008. Vivian is once again with her wonderful Husband, John. Vivian was born to parents, Emil and Hedvig Hammarstrom. She had nine brothers and sisters, all of whom remained close over the years.

Vivian is survived by her brother, Emil; sister, Lillian; three children, Adrienne (Tim), Cheryl and Larry; grandchildren include, Kristy, Eryn, Lukas, Christa and Elisa. Vivian moved to Tucson in 1946 with her husband, John, helped him start a construction and real estate business and raise a family. In later years, Vivian enjoyed spending time with her husband at their Pinetop cabin, visiting friends and family, good conversation, singing and helping others feel good about themselves. Deborah L. Pagel Bell passed away at her home in Chandler, Ariz., July 15, 2008. She was born May 3, 1957, in Billings, Mont. Debbie attended grade school in Laurel, Mont., and Wallace, Idaho. She graduated high school in 1975 from Wallace High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Idaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho, in 1980. Debbie was an emergency room nurse and flight nurse in Pocatello, then worked in an intensive care unit in Maryland. She went to Europe with her husband and taught at an Army base in Germany. Upon their return to the U.S. she worked in the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.; she served there for approximately 15 years.

Otto C. Pagel, 58, of Brick entered Eternal Life on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, after a brief illness.
Otto was born and raised in Jersey City and resided in Brick since 1973.

Otto was currently a machinist at Schering-Plough Corporation in Kenilworth, previously having worked at Western Electric, Kearney; GM/Hyatt Bearings, Clark; Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, and Sunshine Biscuits, Sayreville.

Otto was predeceased by his parents, Otto Pagel Sr. and Genevieve A. Pagel (nee Hopf), formerly of Brick and Jersey City. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Agnes (nee Bigg); his loving children, Michael, Veronica and Brian Pagel; a daughter-in-law, Samantha; his dear sister, Maryann Naples, and nine wonderful nieces and nephews, along with their extended families.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick, N.J. 08723. Mrs. Leland (Clarice) Pagel, 84, Pulaski died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home. The daughter of the late William and Laura (Zeitler) Dahlke was born March 4, 1923, in the Town of Montpelior, where she married Leland Pagel on June 17, 1942, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple owned and operated Fairview Cheese (Pagel's Cheese) in Pulaski for many years, until their retirement. She had been an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pulaski, where she taught Sunday school and had been a member of the Ladies Guild. Clarice had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Leland, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman (Elizabeth) Pagel, Suamico; Doug (Pam) Pagel, Howard; three daughters and one son-in-law, Cyndi Pagel (fiance, Jim Mroczynski), Oshkosh; Patti (Paul) Heimbuch, Dallas, Texas; Nancy Pagel, Appleton; three grandchildren, Adam Rindfleisch, Lindsey (Ryan) Winn, Amy Rindfleisch; a close family friend, Amy Proctor; step-grandchildren and their families, Eric (Rachel) Ropella and their children, Ryan and Colin; Keith Ropella; Todd (Megan) Ropella and their children, Sydney, Travis and Britten; Ryan and Nathan Heimbuch; a sister-in-law, Grace Dahlke, Kansas.

Pagel, Virginia H. On January 7, 2008, eleven days before her 90th birthday, Virginia passed from this earth peacefully. She was the eldest, and spoke about being reunited with her siblings-Lillian, Janet, Florence and Henry-who all passed before her. During most of her long life, that included a marriage to Otto Daemmrich and later to Joseph Pagel, Virginia was blessed with good health. She enjoyed her family, friends, collies, the ability to grow award-winning flowers and crochet beautiful afghans. As a young woman, Virginia took care of her sisters and brother. She worked in a clerical position at Allis Chalmers until she retired. She then volunteered her time at hospitals and nursing homes to give care to the sick and elderly. Throughout her life, Virginia was noted for her generosity, kindness of spirit and thoughtfulness. She was appreciative and enjoyed a sense of humor. Virginia loved good home-cooked meals, relished dark chocolate and adored conversation. She will be missed by her brother-in-law Stephen Polchert, nephew Stephen J. Polchert, nieces Debbie Miles, Deborah (Thomas) Madden, Susan Polchert-McGirr, her advocate Kathy Dich and the staff at West Park Place. VICTORIA - William Lee Pagel, age 85, of Victoria, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. He was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Tivoli, the son of Paul and Mary Jank Pagel. He was a retired rancher and a member of the Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by his son, Harvey Pagel and wife Les of Victoria; granddaughters, Dawn Collins and husband Tim of El Campo, Dana Carver and husband Jason of Victoria, Jackie Pagel of Victoria, and Shae Whitfield of Victoria. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren.
